Another Music Monday- #MusicWedeyFeel

African music in its entirety is one to revere. Its rich drums especially, create wonderful sound for which people being entertained by it can dance to the rhythm it produces.

Some few years back I started to even appreciate it the more when it earned its new face. African music nowadays, for which some call it Afro Pop as well as genres like Kwaito, House, Hip Life and the likes, really tickles my fancy and I am sure it does to you also.

A few years on social media, I found a running hashtag on Mondays which sounded interesting. Want to know? #MusicMondays it is –it highlights the various songs people are grooving to, downloading or enjoying at that moment.

So the little African in me decided to check out f there were any African tunes being shared. That led me to the hashtag #MusicWeDeyFeel. Following it keenly especially in twitter, I realized it was targeted towards tunes from our continent. I later found out that it was spear-headed by Museke. Over the period I had contributed to the trend of sharing my favorite African music.

Now I want to bring it to my platform here. So every Monday hopefully, I should bring you my pick of tunes from the continent so you also check it out.

So for this week, I start with these two tunes, I am sure you’ll love. And for your enjoyment pleasure, watch it right here;

     1. Seyi Shay featuring Iyanya and Banky W – Right Now (Remix) –  Nigeria

2. Mi Casa featuring Sauti Sol – Tuale Fofofo   –          South Africa/Kenya

Stay tuned till I come your way next week Monday for another set of enjoyable African music. If no one will celebrate us, we will celebrate ourselves.

HOW FANS OF SARKODIE REACTED TO HIS #NEWGUY SONG

And so it happened one afternoon, with just a single tweet with photos of Sarkodie and Ace Hood sitting in a studio and another on set of a video shoot.

This drew some huge talk in the capital and some o[art of the country for which Sarkodie trended in twitter.

Down the line, and BOOM, rumours of Sark paying some huge amount to get the We Are The Best artist to collaborate to his new joint #NEWGUY. a lot of rumors and talk amidst speculation of all sorts speared all over social media, print media and the likes.

Well to cut it short, finally the tune has been released and it looks like the track is catching fire just a few hours of it's release.

I then decided to follow reaction from various platforms especially on social media on what people were talking and murmuring about in relation to the tune. So sit back and just read through the few I got so you can also make your judgement.

Interesting views I guess from all over to a point where comparisons are been made with other artists on the continent. Continue to check out more views and opinions below.

I am sure sure i can still get loads and load of opinions online about this new guy tune from Sarkodie but it will be great top know yours in the comments session.

If you still haven't heard of the song I am talking and blogging about, get the DEEZER app on your phone if you are on Tigo Network.

A JAM SESSION ACCOUNT- ELECTIONS AND IT'S EFFECTS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Over the weekend of February 6th to 8th 2015, Ghana hosted hundred of the sub region’s brain boxes of entrepreneurs at GIMPA. What were they here for, TechCamp West Africa.

TECHCAMP WEST AFRICA 2015 - ACCRA
A maiden event and arguably one of an experience, the conference had as its theme; ENTREPRENEURSHIP: ADAPT, EMPOWER, MEASURE. It was intended to bring one hundred young social entrepreneurs from Ghana, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Togo, Benin and Cote d’ Ivoire to gather and engage in hands-on capacity building, and networking with the region’s leading government, academic, civil society and business experts.

The public-private initiative spearheaded by the US Embassy Ghana and the GhanaThink Foundation was to encourage cross border collaboration, inspire entrepreneurship, and promote increased trade across borders.

Session began with attendees (participants) briefly introducing themselves, what they do and the various countries they represented.

Lead panel Seyi Taylor and Cyriac Gbogou opened the discussions by asking participants which countries were having elections in the sub-region and participants’ stated a few. Participants from Liberia pointed out they had their elections the previous year and it was well noted.

Moving forward in the discussion, participants expressed how the period of an election affected their businesses. One of the participants from Liberia stated that, his NGOs main sponsor left the country and haltered all funds that had been agreed to sponsor its programs for the year. This he expressed really affected his organization as one of the programs of the organization was targeted at poverty alleviation and scholarship grants to needy children towards their education.

Another participant from Ghana stated that “My opportunity to gain that funding for my organization was declined later after it had been agreed in principle that my application had been approved. The reason, because a prominent politician who was contesting a Member of Parliament seat had come in for a colossal amount to fund his campaign and was considered a priority client”. This participant expressed disappointment because it affected his schedule of operations for the next period.

It seemed unanimous that, in the sub-region, one thing was evident; organizations are tagged to either the ruling government or the opposition party mostly based on perception or at some point your affiliation in society.

In as much as electioneering period affected some entrepreneurship ventures, there were some good news in some aspects as, the period helped some of the participants to explore their entrepreneurship self.
One of the participants stated that, the elections helped his organization to enforce the reason why one should vote and not accept bribes to induce their decision. They in turn set up a working post where information dissemination made them gain funding from some organizations to support their project. This participant was from Liberia.

Another positive note that was shared in this Jam session was from a member of lead panel who hails from Ivory Coast, stated the election period encouraged him to set up an sms application solely to debunk rumours pertaining to the general elections. This application was designed to create the awareness what that was true and not true running around in the country. During the election day, the app extended its services to providing information on where election materials were available, were not available and to announce violence in an election locality. This he said attracted some funding from corporate bodies.

Revealing during the Jam session was a term in the mobile telephony circles which had similar references in the sub-region. In Liberia, Ghana, and Nigeria, it is referred to as FLASH whiles in Togo and Ivory Coast it’s known as BEEP. This is where a main call is stooped after a connection is established and the recipient gets notified and shows as missed call. Interestingly, in Liberia, it depends on the intellectual affiliation level where the somehow educated folks call it flash and the rural folks used beep. This actually drew loud laughs in the room ending in applause. It was news to me and for once I learnt another thing that was general in the sub-region.

It was therefore agreed by both participants and lead panel that, as an entrepreneur in West Africa, you must have a working plan specifically spelling out your strengths especially during an election year so your business isn't affected.

What Are Your Salary Requirements? Best Answers?

So it’s a new year and I am sure most of us do have resolutions of landing that dream job. In one of my chats with a friend in the Human Resource field, I asked her a few questions during an interview session. One that dragged on was the remuneration part. We spoke at length on that as I disagreed on a lot of the things she said. I continuously asked why?

SALARY
A week later I got a notification of an email from her. There was a link to a short message directing me to go check out this page as all what she was telling me was justified.

I followed the link and the amount of information I got from that post was much valuable. As usual, I didn’t want to sit on this information hence my decision to post it on my blog for you my cherished readers to have a read at it.

I honestly don’t know to the extreme if we have the range system working here in Ghana, but my friend told me some few institutions and industry specific players do have that.

So don’t give the first number because if you request a salary lower than the range for the position, the interviewer will say nothing, and you’ve just lost money.

You want the interviewer to tell you the range for the position, because then you can focus on getting to the high end of the range. But you can’t work to the high point if you don’t know it.

When there are two good negotiators in the room, each person will try to get the other to give the first number.

Each time you deflect the question, the interviewer will try again. Your goal is to outlast the interviewer until they finally tell you the salary range for the job. Here is how to respond:

Question: What salary range are you looking for?

Answer: “Let’s talk about the job requirements and expectations first, so I can get a sense of what you need.” That’s a soft answer to a soft way to ask the question.

Question: What did you make at your last job?

Answer: “This position is not exactly the same as my last job. So let’s discuss what my responsibilities would be here and then determine a fair salary for this job.” It’s hard to argue with words like “fair” and “responsibilities” you’re earning respect with this one.

Question: What are you expecting to make in terms of salary?

Answer: “I am interested in finding a job that is a good fit for me. I’m sure whatever salary you’re paying is consistent with the rest of the market.” In other words, I respect myself and I want to think I can respect this company.

Question: I need to know what salary you want in order to make you an offer. Can you tell me a range?

Answer: “I’d appreciate it if you could make me an offer based on whatever you have budgeted for this position and we can go from there.” This is a pretty direct response, so using words like “appreciate” focuses on drawing out the interviewer’s better qualities instead of her tougher side.

Question: Why don’t you want to give your salary requirements?

Answer: “I think you have a good idea of what this position is worth to your company, and that’s important information for me to know.”

You can see the pattern, right? If you think you sound obnoxious or obstinate by not answering the question, think of how he feels asking the question more than once.
PAY DAY

Also, by the time the interviewer has asked two or three times, the interviewer will know that hiring you means having a tough negotiator on his team another reason to make you a good salary offer!

I hope this short note helps someone out there to their next interview session for that dream job. But as my captions depicts a question mark, I will encourage more suggestions which will be much more appropriate than any of the answers stated above. Have the best of 2015 and beyond.

It's New Year's Day 2015

And its a new year. I am sure the previous year treated you fairly to life and its progressions.
This is a fun post if I can call it so to just let you know how I have been rolling throughout the new year's day of 2015.

To begin with, my day began in church. You want to know where I fellowship? Vertical Center Restoration Tabernacle, (Spoken Word) inside Tema community One.. I was at the crossover service.
I later ha my first meal of the new year around 3:48am thereabouts. Well guess what it was....see the photo for yourself.

I then decided to watch movie and the one the won for me to watch was 'We're The Millers'. Loved the comedy bit to the film but trust couldn't see the end of the movie. I slept off along the line. This was around 4:20 am thereabouts also.

Woke up to the terrible harmattan around 9 am and headed straight to the shower to take my bath. Got myself some coffee and tea bread and went on to finish off my movie from where I left off.
I later got a phone call from a close friend whose wife requested I join them for lunch which I gladly accepted. I got there around 15 hours GMT and in a few minutes, food was ready. Folks don't go there. Some wild fufu bi paa....chai....I didn't spare it at all.

To check up on a friend on how the day was going, I found out they had a basketball session at the Lizzy Sports Complex inside east legon. Joined him and the rest of the group around, shared some pleasantries and wished ourselves the best of the year. We knocked of around 6pm. Why? The club I support Tottenham Hotspurs was playing Chelsea. Errm I am sure you knew how the game ended.....wanna still know the scores?...ok it ended 5:3 in favor of Spurs...were you thinking otherwise? Oh you paa!!!

Well more things happened today o, but honestly a few more to go......now stretch and read on. Myself and my other pals continued to Papas Pizza for errm call it refreshment.

Obviously you know what flowed on the table aside, the pizza. In addition, we had long chats, looked back at the year just gone by, cracked up lots of jokes and many more just for the fun bit.of our meeting. This went on for over two and a half hours.

Let's digress a little on this post. It was an incident that happened at the pizza joint. It actually goes to confirm the case of customer service in this country. Still very poor and the earlier service providers back up, the better. We had to wait and I personally had to move around to look for the waiter that served our table to pay her her money after confirming she had forgotten about our table. A few of my pals at a point suggested we leave but others insisted we wait a little and sort it out. In the end, we did the needful by waiting for her to show up and paid her.

A little pissed, among few of my friends, we departed going our various ways. I later boarded a trotro home. Aside all these events happening all day, there were periods of me being on social media reading a whole lot, from scandals, to court issues, sports news and the likes. As usual twitter and Whatsapp were the dominant ones.

Well before I close this post, I hope you have an amazing year of 2015 filled with blessings of all you desire, want and need.

The best of the New Year!!! Afehyia Pa !!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
